Endorse the “Universal School Meals Program Act”
The Universal School Meals Program Act was introduced in the House and Senate by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). House cosponsors include Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Gwen Moore (D-WI), André Carson (D-IN), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
As Congress moves to consider the reauthorization of the child nutrition programs, legislation that creates a vision that every child should have access to nutritious meals at school, after school, during the summer, and at child care is the right context for these discussions.

Recent studies document that access to nutritious meals in school and child care increase the health and educational outcomes for our nation’s children. Investing in these programs and moving in the direction where all children – regardless of income – can access a healthy meal at school and in child care to be ready to learn and thrive is the right direction for this reauthorization effort.
