Community Eligibility: Strategies to Improve Your ISP
Thursday, May 28, 3:00 p.m. Eastern (2:00 p.m. Central, 1:00 p.m. Mountain, 12:00 p.m. Pacific)
Have you adopted community eligibility? Thinking about adopting community eligibility? Now, more than ever, eligible schools should consider this option for the 2020-2021 school year, to support students and their families impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Due to the pandemic, USDA has extended the deadlines and school districts will need to decide if they want to opt in for the 2020-2021 school year by August 31, 2020.
School districts should implement direct certification best practices in May and June to increase the district's Identified Student Percentage (ISP) so that it will accurately reflect the poverty within the school in the 2020-2021 school year. Since the ISP determines the level of reimbursement a school will receive and influences whether or not the school will operate in the black under community eligibility, taking steps to improve a school district's ISP is critical.
This webinar will cover best practices for improving direct certification; making sure children who are homeless, migrant or in foster care are certified without an application; and conducting SNAP outreach to help improve a school district's ISP.
