Endorse the Access to Healthy Food for Young Children Act
Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is planning on reintroducing the Access to Healthy Food for Young Children Act early next week. This critical bill would strengthen the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) by improving the adequacy of benefits by allowing another meal or snack for children in a full day of care; creating consistency across programs by allowing annual eligibility for proprietary child care centers; increasing reimbursement rates for providers and sponsors; improving area eligibility; and eliminating overly burdensome and outdated paperwork.
The bill will help advocates — both on and off Capitol Hill — create the momentum needed to boost CACFP priorities for both the next recovery package and the upcoming Child Nutrition Reauthorization. The Biden administration is expected to release a human infrastructure plan (American Family Plan) shortly that includes childcare as a key priority.
